"How inappropriate to call this planet Earth, when clearly it is Ocean" - Arthur C. Clarke

Our Mission Statement

To create a wake, whose ripples provide our guests with a sense of wonder about the natural world, while minimizing our impact on the daily lives of the non-human neighbors whose home we share.

Where you can.......

Join a Guided Kayak / Nature Tour
Guided tours are planned to go with the current and start with a short instruction on land. You will then paddle to a sandbar for a snack and swim in warm weather. Then paddle to the take out location. Along the way the guides describe the salt marsh eco-system, critters and local history. Fee $55/person (includes all gear and a snack)

OR
Create your own adventure
and Rent a canoe or Kayak
We supply the kayak or canoe, PFD's, paddles and map. Depending on the tide and weather we can make suggestions routes, local sites and what to avoid. All rentals leave from our location and need to stay here in the State Park. So that means paddling against the current half the time. We have sit in and sit on top kayaks. From the very start we decided to run the business side of Kayak Amelia in an environmentally responsible manner. We are constantly searching for new ways we can 'green' our business practices. Some of the steps we've taken so far are :

  • using the highest recycled content, chlorine free office paper products
  • recycling office paper, plastic, cardboard, ink catrigages and aluminum cans
  • shredding and composting the remaining paper
  • using compact flourescent bulbs
  • purchasing 100% recycled toilet paper & hand towels
  • switching from harsh chemical cleaners to more 'green' products
  • the new van is a turbo diesel (Ray is still searching for a bio-diesel source)

In our gift shop we also try to offer our visitors earth friendly products and educate them about why organic / alternatives are better. Some items we offer:

  • shirts made from organic cotton, hemp and bamboo (dyed with clay and kelp based inks)
  • shade grown coffee
  • organic chocolate
  • visitors take merchandise home in biodegradable bags
