What’s the difference between Guided tours or Self-guided Rentals?

Guided tours start with a short instruction, then paddle about 2 hours with a break mid trip on a sandbar for a snack and swim. Guided tours are planned to go with the tide.
Self-Guided Rentals take off from our location in the middle of Simpson Creek. We supply you with a map and point out interesting places to stop. There are miles of salt marsh and small rivers to explore. When done you return to the place you started (which means half the trip will be against the tide).

What to bring

  • Something on your feet that can get wet
  • Shorts or bathing suit in warm weather (wind breaker jacket when it’s cooler)
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Water or gatorade to drink
  • It might be good to have a change of dry clothes for the ride home

Guided Tours

Guided kayak nature tours are a great way to learn about kayaking or Stand Up Paddle boarding (SUP) and the local environment. No experience is needed. All tours start with a short paddle instruction on land, midway through the tour you will take a break on a sandbar for a snack and swim (on most tours) in warm weather. Tours are planned to go with the current so you can work on those paddling skills and really enjoy the scenery. Along the way the naturalists describe the salt marsh eco-system, critters and local history. A 3 hour tour has about 2 hours of kayaking. Which tour we do on each day is determined by the tide that day. Reservations are required. Fee $70 adult, $60 child under 12 yr

Instruction

This is a BEGINNERS COURSE designed for the everyday paddler. Great for 1st time kayakers and people that have been kayaking for awhile. We will cover a multitude of kayak information. Everything from loading and unloading your kayak, what gear you should have, to performing a self rescue. Classes are 3-4 hours long depending on group size and how much fun we’re having. Be ready with lunch and snacks and of course bring any gear that you normally use on the water (kayak, paddle, PFD).

Quick Start Your Kayak – This  is a brief introduction to paddling a kayak. Students are presented with basic information on dressing to paddle safety, potential hazards and simple rescues. Various paddle strokes are presented and practiced, allowing students to safely and comfortably maneuver on still water. This class is about 3-4 hours long. Fee is $105pp which includes rental of kayak, PFD/whistle, paddle, bilge pump and dry box + a bottle of water. If you have your own kayak and gear the cost is $85.

Flatwater Kayak Safety and Rescue workshop – will introduce essential flatwater safety practices and rescue techniques that can be performed with a minimum of equipment, in the first few minutes of an emergency. This course will help you understand that prevention is key to a safe trip. Understand how to avoid potential dangers. Develop and practice key self-rescue skills. Learn to focus on fast, simple, low risk rescue techniques and develop the skills to manage minor in-water incidents. We strongly suggest that you bring your own gear that you would normally paddle in and it has proper front and rear flotation i.e. hatch covers or foam inserts. We will be getting wet so be prepared with dry clothes to change into when attending class room scenarios. This class is about 3-4 hours long. Fee is $100 which includes rental of Kayak, PFD/whistle, paddle, bilge pump, and dry box + a bottle of water (and use of tow rope and paddle float). If you have your own gear the cost is $85.
